Excerpt:
He crowded me from behind and I had to lean way back to take him all in. He was tall, already covered that. I would guess around six foot three. He was wearing a leather jacket, open, and I could make out an amazing chest packaged between two very broad shoulders. He was wearing a worn, black V-neck T-shirt with a sprinkling of dark hair visible across his chest. When I could tear my depraved eyes off of that site, I moved them upward and got totally stuck on his chin. Covered in a full—but totally styled and clean cut—beard that was calling out for me to touch it. I lifted a tremulous hand up towards him, completely oblivious of the danger in his eyes, and attempted to cop a feel of that fascinating part of his face.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, he grabbed my wrist before I could make contact and gave me a sharp squeeze. “Ow! Hey, let go.”
“You’re cut off, Princess.”
“Who the hell are you?” I emphasized my point with my free hand, poking him in the chest. “And why do you think,” poke, “that you can tell me,” poke, “what to do?” Double extra hard poke.
I heard a loud snicker coming from behind the bar, mixed with a low growl that was coming from the man in front of me. “Ryan,” he said. “Can you please inform this girl that she is cut off, and to vacate my pub immediately?”
“Girl?” I tried to make my hand slap him, but drunk me was no match for this guy.
“Right away, boss.” I turned to look at Ryan, who was still smiling, albeit with a small amount of guilt twinkling in his eyes. “Sam, darlin’, I can’t serve you any more alcohol, by decree of this here man, my boss and the current owner of Murphy’s pub. Now, can I call you a taxi?”
“Son of a bitch. I can’t catch a break today. No, Ryan, thank you ever so much for your wonderful service and hospitality, but I gotta go.”
“Sam, it’s pouring rain outside.”
“It’s fine. I’ll be fine.” I turned to gather my coat, but encountered resistance from the mountain man still holding my wrist. “Let go of me.”
“No.” He was glaring at me as if I had done something wrong, when clearly he was the one in the wrong, and by the look of him lived dangerously close to the wrong side of the law.
I pushed off and up from my perch, as best I could in my condition and considering he was crowding me, let me tell you, it wasn’t an easy feat. I was tall, close to five foot ten, so I gathered up my liquid courage and attempted to go toe to toe with the jerk. “I said, let go. Now.”
