EXCERPT:

He winks, and somehow, it makes me blush.
For some reason, it’s hard to look away too.
“What’s your name?” I ask.
“Alexander Wright.”
I smile. “Maybell Fairweather.”
“Hmm … Maybell … nice name.”
“Thanks.” I blush.
I don’t know why or what it is about him, but he has this gentleness about him that soothes me and makes me want to ask him to stay, even if I don’t have a reason for it.
But then I realize it’s not the only reason I’m looking at him.
Something’s felt off since we met, and I couldn’t put my finger on it, but now, I can.
“Wait …” I mutter. “I know you, right?”
“Yeah, I’m that guy who ate a sandwich with you the other day. You don’t remember? Should I call a nurse?” He chuckles.
I roll my eyes. “No. I mean …” I recognize him from somewhere. “I know you from … school, right?”
His eyes suddenly widen, and he slams his lips shut.
HA! I knew he looked familiar. “No way! I knew it.”
The muscles in his face tighten. “Oh, boy.”
“I’ve seen you at school a few times.”
“Really?” he says, scratching the back of his neck.
“Yeah … don’t tell me I’m making this up. I’m not crazy … right?” I pout.
He smiles, his dimples making me wanna pinch his cheeks. “No, you’re not crazy. It’s just a surprise that you’d even recognize me. People usually don’t even see me. I’m invisible.”
“Yeah?” I bite my lip and frown. “Same here.”
He lowers his arm. “No … you’re not invisible at all,” he says, looking at me with half-mast eyes. “I see you. All the time.”

EXCERPT 2:

“You’re my hero. And I forgive you.”
“Don’t say that …” he whispers.
“I get it now. You don’t have to explain it. I’m not angry, and I’m not sad. I just want you.”
I look up at him with the biggest smile I can muster, and it seems to lighten his mood too.
There’s still a hint of something … a kind of darkness I can’t explain … but it’s okay for now. Some things are better left unsaid.
I turn around and take a step into the hallway, looking back to grab his hand and pull him along every step of the way. I slowly guide him to my living room and turn the lights off. His face glows in the dark as I lean in as close as I possibly can, wrapping my arms around his waist. My lips inch toward his and I softly press a kiss on the side of his lips, and then another one on the other edge.
His lips slowly find their way to mine until we’re locked in a heated kiss.
My head feels heavy with thirst. I crave him more than I’ve ever craved anything. It’s unfamiliar to me but feels natural too. Like we were destined to end up together like this … desperately kissing … greedily pulling each other closer.
My cheeks burn with the heat he exudes, and soon, his whole body radiates, and I can’t get enough. I need to get closer, have every inch of my body next to his.
So I bring his hands to my waist and curl them underneath my shirt, coaxing him to pull it up. He hesitates for a second, but with my smile and my lips on his, he has no reason to hold back anymore.
He pulls the shirt over my head and kisses my neck, not even caring to look at my breasts. I don’t feel insecure with him. All I can feel are the raging hormones, the need, the lust.
His lips make a trail from my neck down to my breasts, where he plants a kiss between them. Then he throws off his own shirt, not giving a shit where it lands. I sense a change in his demeanor, as he no longer feels like the uncertain boy but more like a guy with a hunger he needs to satiate.
His curls tickle my neck as he kisses my shoulder. “This is crazy,” he murmurs against my ears.
“I like crazy …” I whisper as he wraps his arms around me and lets his lips roam free across my body.
“But how far?” he asks.
I moan when he places a kiss right below my earlobe.
“Until the end. Don’t stop,” I say.

“I needed that …” she murmurs, closing her eyes again.

“I know you did.” I smile cheekily.

She lets out a long, drawn-out sigh. “Alex Wright … you seem to know everything.”

“No, I just know you,” I reply boldly.

“Really now?” She opens one eye.

“I know you better than you think,” I say.

Now, both her eyes are open but hidden underneath thick lashes and a curious frown. “Really? Then what am I thinking right now?” She smirks as her feet dangle below the bench, one swaying, the other unmoving, and there is only one thing I can think of.

A tiny leaf that’s fallen on top of her head makes my hand move closer to swipe it away, but I linger. My fingers gently trail along her soft dark blond hair, past her ears and down her cheeks, until they reach her chin. There, I subtly grasp her between my thumb and index finger and lean in, cocking my head. My eyes slowly close, the sound of her short breaths pulling me in.

Before I know it, my lips have locked with hers.

I don’t know why I’m kissing her.

Well, other than the fact that I’ve been madly in love with her all this time.

She was just perfect.

Perfect, just the way she is.

Her scrunched-up face and rosy lips … just had to be kissed.

So I did it.

I’m actually kissing Maybell Fairweather.

I don’t know what I’m doing. I’ve only ever kissed one other girl, and that was in kindergarten. I have no fucking clue, but I hope I’m doing it right. She isn’t stopping me or pushing me away, so that’s a good thing. Right?

But damn, she tastes so sweet, and her lips are so soft.

No wonder everyone likes to do this so much.

It feels like it lasts forever.

After a while, she needs to take a breath, and our lips unlock. Her eyes wide and her lips parted, still swollen, heavy, much like mine, and all I can think of is kissing her again.

Is it so wrong to want the thing I shouldn’t have?

She tucks a strand of her wild hair behind her ear, her cheeks turning red as a strawberry, but I like the color. I can’t stop looking at her, but it’s growing awfully silent too. She’s still so close to me; I can feel her warm breath tingle on my skin.

“This?” I murmur, as an answer to her question.

She bites her lip to stop herself from smiling. “I …”

Her smile only makes me feel more bold, so I place my hand on her cheek and pull her even closer. “I just want to make you happy.”

I lean in again and press another soft kiss on her lips, the touch exhilarating me. Goose bumps scatter across my skin as I taste her on my lips. My blood rushes through my body to the only spot it can go to, the sudden burst of greed filling me. My pants tighten as my dick flinches from her lips alone.

God, I need to stop. This isn’t right.

With all the willpower I can muster, I unlatch my lips from hers, her taste still lingering on my tongue. I can smell her perfume too, the scent rubbed off on my cheeks and neck, and it’s making me giddy. Horny.

Fuck.

I clear my throat as we both turn red as a beet.

“Well …” I get up from the bench and turn away for a second to cool down my manly parts. I even think of the delusional grandpa she has for a neighbor just so I can rid myself of this hard-on. Anything to make it go away quicker.

When I’ve cooled down, I turn to her and smile. She’s still looking at me. Her lips still parted, her face still in shock mode. I can only hope my guess was right, but I won’t ask. I’ll let her decide.

So I hold out my hand and say, “Let’s go back inside.”

For a second, she just stares at me, then my hand, and then me again.

Her hand slowly reaches for mine.

Our fingers entangle.

The tip of her lips points upward.

That’s when I know.

Excerpt

Sometimes we just have to live the fantasy in order to feel human again.

“It’s so peaceful out here,” she whispers.

“Yeah … I love it.”

“I just wish I could get up and stand under the trees. Just for a little while.”

I sit up and look at her, waiting until she opens her eyes. “Just standing or more?”

She smiles as she cocks her head towards me. “And maybe dance a little. If I could.”

The left side of my lips perk up into a smile. “You can.”

I get up from the bench, stand in front of her, and hold out both my hands.

“What are you doing?” she asks.

“Take my hands.”

“Why?” She looks at them tentatively.

“Just take them.”

It takes her a while to agree, probably because she’s scared. But there’s no reason to be. I won’t let her fall. I never will.

I pull her up into standing position.

“Hold onto me for support,” I say, and then take a step back until I’m so far back she has to come to me. “C’mon. Don’t be scared. I’m here.”

One, two, three. Hop. Her leg sways, but she stays put, putting every ounce of weight on my arms.

“Again,” I say, taking another step back and tugging her with me.

She goes along with it, taking another step of blind faith.

I never take my eyes off her as she continues to hop closer to me. Not even when we reach the center of the field. Leaves are scattered all around us, and when the wind blows a cascade of more leaves follow. Some drop on her head, making her giggle as she brushes them off.

Still, I can’t stop looking.

I’m no longer afraid or embarrassed about it.

I simply am … in love.

“What now?” she asks.

I pull her as close as I can so I can wrap both my arms around her. “Put your arms around my neck.”

She complies, her fingers lacing behind my neck. I can feel the warmth of her skin against mine, and as I soak in the heat of the sun I feel invigorated, strong. Strong enough to carry her across the ocean and back.

In one go I lift her up, her cheerful squeal creating goosebumps all over my body. Then I start to move my feet, one by one, until I’m no longer just walking … Until I’m dancing in a whirlwind of leaves … dancing with her in my arms.

The beauty of this place fades in comparison to her.

And even though I adore every inch of her presence, I do not deserve her.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t fulfill her dreams.

Her smile is wide, her teeth sparkling in the light of the sun. She looks so happy. Happier than I’ve ever seen her, and it fills me with something I’ve never experienced before. Hope.

After spinning and circling around for so many times, my head is getting dizzy, so I slowly come to a stop and admire the renewed look on her face. Her rosy cheeks. Her tousled hair floating in the wind. She leans away and grabs my hands as I pull her back to the seat once again.
