Excerpt
I manage to make only a couple of steps when Ryan catches me around the elbow and turns me to face him. I don’t even have time to react when he crushes me to him, lifts my face to his, and kisses me hard. Ryan kisses me like he’s never kissed me before. With desperation, as if he’d die if he stops. His lips and tongue are demanding, hungry, almost bruising. It’s not the tentative, reclaiming kiss I expected us to have after so many months apart. No. This is a devouring, claiming, and merciless kiss. It’s an I-hate-seeing-other-men-touch-you, why-are-you-fighting-us, every-second-without-you-is-torture kiss. Feeling fire running through my veins, I bring my hands up to cup his jaw and kiss him back with everything I am. Even if I’m not ready to admit it, being without Ryan has been an insufferable anguish for me too. No matter how hard I try to deny it, my heart still wants him with every beat it takes. I don’t even care that we’re making a scene when my hands roam over his hard body, grabbing and squeezing. When our lips finally part, we stare at each other, his breaths as labored as my own. I swallow. Neither of us moves as tension zings between us. Shit, what have I done? In a poor attempt at protecting my heart, I take a step away from Ryan and murmur, “You shouldn’t have done that.” His jaw clenches and his eyes fill with a rush of remorse. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t … God, I’m such a fucking asshole. I’m really sorry.” No, I didn’t mean that. I want you to do it again. No. I don’t. God, I’m a mess. “It’s okay. I mean … I did kiss you back. I…” My stammering will cost me. His expression suddenly relaxes and a bit of a triumph flashes in his eyes. “You did.” He cups my cheek, his thumb tracing the line of my jaw. “Let me chase away all your fears about us. Let me kiss all the scars I left on your heart.” He’s so earnest in his plea. “Ryan …” I whisper, feeling the walls I’ve built to protect myself crack with his every word. And his expression. God, I’m drowning in the depths of the emotions pouring out of his green eyes. “Being apart from you, thinking I’d never hold you like this again has been hell.” Holy, sweet Lord. What is he doing to me? Radiating agony streams from him. “Never again I’ll make a choice for you or demean your opinion. I promise to always respect your wishes and your freedom to make decisions for yourself. No matter how strong my feelings for you are, it doesn’t give me the right to decide for you.” He pauses and gathers a deep breath. “It took me a long time to realize we have nothing without trust. I know that now. I’ll never make the same mistake again, Liz. Let me make good on every broken promise. Let me dry every precious tear you shed for me.” He leans down, his lips hovering over mine, and whispers across my mouth. “Elizabeth, please, forgive me.” His plea wraps around my heart and squeezes, taking my breath away. I push back the tears. God, I dreamed about this moment for so long. Now it’s here, and I’m stunned and lost. Before I can form a coherent thought, his lips are on mine again. This kiss is different. It’s loving and slow and begs for forgiveness. And it ends too soon. “I know your friends are waiting for you. Call me when you’re ready for me to be in your life again. I’ll be waiting. No matter how long it takes.” Wait. What? My emotions choke me as I watch Ryan walk down the hall and away from me. He disappears from view, leaving me in such a state that I can hardly string two cohesive thoughts together. Who does that? Who leaves like that? Asshole. He was right to leave. His presence, his kisses and touches make me defenseless. I promised myself not to be so easily dazzled again, yet here I am trembling with lips swollen from his kisses. My heart thuds uncontrollably in my chest, and the urge to run after him chokes me. I draw in a deep, steadying breath. There are two options here. I can ask him to leave my life for good or take a leap of faith and try to make this work between us. What do I do?

Where do babies come from?

The question every parent dreads hearing has finally fallen from the lips of six year old Ava Banks, the curious, precocious little girl that you fell in love with in Ignite. Jeremy and Sierra, normally blunt as can be, struggle to find the right words to answer her. So instead, they rewind sixteen years to that one fateful day where a game of Seven Minutes in Heaven inevitably led to life-long romance filled with laughter, love, and many, many mishaps along the way.

Falling in love with your best friend? It's the most incredible thing in the world. But when a love comes so easily, will it truly be able to last? When the world comes crashing down around you, can even the strongest relationship withstand great tragedy?

Stay tuned for lots of laughs, teenage awkwardness, a few tears, and most of all, mullets. Because what good love story doesn't do business in the front, and party in the back?

**While Fusion is a standalone romance, it’s best read after Ignite.

Excerpt

“It’s fine, Jeremy. I promise. I have no problem being the Tod to your Copper. Or the Joey to your Dawson. That’s who I am.” She hesitated for a brief moment. “That’s who I’ll always be. You’re my best friend, Jeremy. It’s okay that you don’t see my boobs. Hell, it’s probably better that way.”

My stomach plummeted and if I was man enough to admit it, my eyes burned with an unexpected rush of tears. I stepped back, out of the streetlight so she couldn’t see me. It was a move she misinterpreted, but before I could find a single ounce of courage, she was waving goodbye and running into her house, leaving me there to watch her go.

Something I never wanted to do again.

It wasn’t until after Sierra left for Ohio and I had a chance to reflect on her words that I realized what she’d said. Dawson and Joey, as of right then, weren’t even speaking. Copper and Tod went their separate ways, and even though their friendship remained, they were still apart for the rest of their lives.

I didn’t want to be Copper anymore. I sure as hell didn’t want to be Dawson.

But it was too late. I’d lost my chance. I’d missed my window. Sierra was gone and there was nothing I could do about it.

Jenna was right.

I was an idiot.

I married the right brother.
At least that's what I tell myself at night, when I stare at the ceiling and listen to the rhythm of the grandfather clock down the hall. It never feels like the mere passage of time, but a countdown towards something inevitable. Bobby Lightly is selfish, irresponsible, and careless. I haven't seen him since the day I married his brother. He slipped out during the wedding reception without a word. A year later, I heard Bobby was drafted to Korea. He never said goodbye to anyone. Never sent a letter. We had all come to terms with the fact that he was probably dead somewhere, either a victim of the war or its aftermath. That is, until in the midst of an unrelenting heatwave, he showed up at the doorstep of the house I lived in with his brother. Everyone thinks I'm cruel. Everyone thinks I should be easy on him. Excerpt

The dim porch light spotlighted Bobby. I tried not to look, but it only took seconds to fall in. He took a swig out of the long-necked bottle. His sandy brown hair was knotted back carelessly, most of it not long enough to reach the ponytail, so that the locks collapsed in reckless waves. Until his return, I had never seen him like that. The Lightlys always kept their boys clean-cut. He was almost twenty when I saw him last and in those few years he had transformed into a man. His stubble framed a sharp jawline, and only made his roguish smile more mischievous. No one around here dressed or kept their hair like Bobby. And like his fits of quiet, it added to his mystery. Outwardly he would be silent, but quiet Bobby was always the loudest to me. I could almost hear his mind racing with thoughts, a tension that swirled around him like a silent storm. So while he didn’t say a word, I always felt like he was tearing the space apart. I could feel the air pressure change as Bobby raged internally. For all of his yapping growing up, during these silent “fits” was when I felt closest to him.  We didn't say anything for a minute or so. We used to do this sometimes, when we were teenagers. When Bobby and I weren't fighting over something, or sometimes just after we did and had exhausted each other, we would just sit together. Sometimes we would talk, other times we wouldn't. It seemed Bobby didn't want to pressure me to talk and so it was me who spoke the first words. "So is it the heat?" "Hmm?" he asked. "Why you can't sleep." "Oh," he replied, the steady creaking of the porch swing a backtrack to his words. "No, I don't mind it. I just sleep in the raw." He winked. I fought a smile and shook my head at him. Bobby leaned forward, stopping the swing. The silence this created punctuated his next words. "It's um . . . before the war I used to sleep like a rock every night. After, well sometimes I do, other nights I don't." "Oh," I replied, my arms crossed as I kicked at a dry leaf on the floor. "Want some?" Bobby tipped his beer towards me. "Oh no, I'm fine." "Come on, you've always loved some beer." "Things change." "Oh yes they do," he leaned back and got to rocking, "but the taste for beer. That never does." He raised an eyebrow playfully. I glanced up at the little bugs dancing around the porch light, reminding myself not to become like them.

Excerpt

“What do you want me to do?” I yelled frustratedly. “Pack my bags and go to India? Life’s not that easy. We’re not all you. We don’t all just walk away from our responsibilities.”
I immediately regretted those last words, recalling the scar on his shoulder. There were some responsibilities Bobby faced when others would have run.
“It’s not about what I want you to do, Lil. What do you want?”  What I wanted was no longer relevant. It was too late for what I wanted.
“You keep taking that shit and one day you are going to wake up and realize you slept your whole life away. There may be people who need that, but you are not one of them. Let yourself feel it all. The good. The bad. The fucking great. Don’t imprison yourself.”
I knew he was right, but I had grown comfortable in the numbness. Yet there was something luxurious about the pain I felt upon Bobby’s return. It was rich and textured. I could feel it in my bones and my chest and on my skin. I could taste it. I could feel again. And feeling the pain also gave me room to feel alive.
“If you keep doing this, how are you any different than Rory? We want to get him better, right? Well the changes start with us. I’m back and trust me, that wasn’t easy for me. And now you’ve gotta bring yourself back.” I swallowed sharply, preparing myself to say goodbye to my dear friend. A friend who had always been there. More than my sister, or mother, or Barbie could be. It understood my fears, my insecurities, the things I had sacrificed. It knew my secrets. I never had to explain myself to it. It never judged.
“Fine,” I surrendered.
But I clutched the bottle tighter in my hands than ever before.  Bobby’s body language relaxed as he glanced over to me and opened his palm.
“Gimme.”
“What? Now you want ‘em?”
“Don’t be an ass, Lil.” I sneered at Bobby, slamming the bottle in his palm.
The pills tried to seduce me one last time as I heard them dance in their container.

With her lips above his stomach, her tears tried to make an appearance, but she fought hard, not wanting them to ruin this moment. His hand pushed aside her fallen hair, tucking it behind her ear as he caressed her cheek and then her mouth. She kissed each finger as they slowly crossed her lips. He rolled them over and stared down at her. Lowering his head, he lightly kissed each closed eye, causing a lone tear to slip down her cheek, puddling by her earlobe. “Open your eyes, suga,” he beckoned her, situating himself between her legs. She felt him hard against her center, waiting, yet she kept her eyes shut. “Look at me,” he ordered again before kissing her lips. Mia finally opened her eyes, focusing on his as he slowly entered her. She couldn’t help it—her eyelids slid closed at how good it felt to have him inside of her. Ethan stopped moving and held her chin between his thumb and index finger. “No, keep them open. Look at me,” he repeated as he pushed himself all the way inside with one swift stroke. “Ah, fuck,” she said on an exhale of breath, loving the way he filled her so completely, so perfectly.

My name is Maya, and I'm not the same girl I was a month ago. There is an emptiness I carry around in my chest now. A broken heart caused by grief. There are also dark nights where I have trouble breathing as I feel the heavy weight of loss rushing through my veins, painful moments where I can remember my entire being scream in agony as I held onto my father's cold, lifeless hand. Then there is always a hero to every story, isn't there? A hero who I despised from the moment he opened his mouth. His name is Alexander. He is my inevitable I never expected to find. The one my broken heart leads me to. His existence, his touch, everything he did to make my pain bearable will leave a mark on me forever. Yet, I know that when I'm gone, he'll only remember me as a fading memory.

Excerpt

My hands trembling on his hard chest, I opened my mouth, and the words just tumbled out before I could stop myself. “Maybe at another time this could’ve turned into something.” “I believe it’s already something, Maya.” “Yeah…” He was right. It was already something. But it wasn’t something that would be enough. Not for me. Not when he had someone else in his heart. Not when I couldn’t be the one he needed, wanted. Craved even. “Maybe it could have been something more, then.” “Yes. Maybe,” he murmured and brushed a gentle kiss on both of my closed eyelids. The act was so tender that it hurt my heart, and I was forced to close my eyes again. Tighter this time. “Tomorrow, I’ll get over you, Alexander Ross. As soon as I’m on that plane, I’ll get over you,” I said breathlessly. His hands froze on my thighs, and I opened my eyes. He couldn’t even meet my gaze. “What else would you like to do tonight?” he asked instead. I forced a smile on my lips. We had reached the end of my dream. “I think I’m done for the night. I have to get up early tomorrow.” I got up from his lap—ignoring the hands that were trying to hold me down. The frown I came to love so much appeared on his face again. I was going to miss everything about this man.

Ella Maise

I'm an avid reader. Therefore, a big dreamer. I love nothing more than to escape real life to find those very few magical moments in a book. I love how it has the power of stealing your worries away, putting a smile on your face, and of course sometimes making you crush on fictional characters. I can't even begin to describe how exciting it is to give life to new characters and fall for them. It's definitely a different kind of addiction. I'm still searching for my own happy ending. Until that happens, I'll live vicariously through my own characters.

"I am not crazy." She scratched again. "Really? Because you seem pretty damn crazy. You shaved me—you took my jeans—" "Borrowed. I borrowed them." "You keep your mother in the fridge." Her fingernails dug at her back, irritation only making her itch worse. "It's a jar of yeast!" "That you call your mother! Why are you scratching like a stray dog? Just what exactly is the problem back there?" "I don't know!" Elly snapped and tried to stop. The slow crawl of movement tickled her again and she froze. There was something in there. Not on her. But in the robe. She prayed she was imagining it and tried to speak. Her mouth flapped twice, no sound came out. "What? What is it?" Her fingers knotted together, she forced in two deep breaths of air. It moved again. She wasn't imagining it. There was something in there. Oh, God. There was a spider in her robe. Elly raised her gaze to Ethan, begging him to understand what she had to do. "Are you alright?" He took a half step towards her. And Elly did the only thing she could do. She threw her robe off and leaped naked at Ethan Quill.

Excerpt

A knock on my door startled me out of my thoughts, and I hesitated. Hearing another insistent knock just a few seconds later, I made sure my towel was secure around my body and went to answer the door. As I peeked out from the small opening, I saw Alexander standing just a few inches away from me. Our eyes met, and my pulse quickened. As I was still dripping wet, the cold air coming from the hallway caused me to shiver. His eyes broke away from mine, taking in my body from head to toe. I tried to cover my half-naked body behind the door, but it was pointless. “What do you want?” I asked, annoyed that he was doing the silent thing and just staring. I heard the elevators ping open down the hallway, and his attention shifted from me for a second. Being done with the scrutinizing look he was giving me, I started to close the door on his face, but his hand stopped me from pushing it all the way. With his next forward move, I had to let go of the door and take a step back as he strode into my room. Into me. “What the hell—” His hand shot out, and he gently grabbed me at the back of my neck and pulled my body toward him as his lips made contact with mine. He took another step into me, and I found my body plastered to his. Putting both of my hands on his chest, I tried to push him off, but he urged my lips apart with his, and his tongue sneaked into my mouth, forcing me to respond to his kiss. Because when he looked like he did, how could you not? As my body slackened against him, his sudden kiss turned into something different, something more and unexpected. It was hard, yet still gentle and slow—something I wouldn’t expect from a jerk like him. He looked more like someone who would take what he wanted the way he wanted it. Not like that would have been a hardship, but still. He splayed his warm hand at the small of my back and slowly pulled my lower body into his. I grabbed the lapels of his suit, pulling him down to me, leaning into the kiss as I melted around his body. “What was that?” he whispered against my wet lips. “What?” I muttered, dazed. Before I could realize what I had done with whom, he groaned and gently pushed me back against the open door, his hand still protecting the back of my head. Caressing my lips with his tongue, he claimed my mouth in another drawn-out kiss. A mind-numbing kiss. A kiss that made me lose my judgment. A throat cleared behind him, next to him, somewhere—and the moment was lost.

Guest Post from Author Ella Maise

My Playlist For Certain Scenes in Lost Prelude

There is one song in Lost Prelude that plays a heavy role in the book, which I will mention just in a sec, but there are also other songs I listened to as I was writing it. And somehow the music just fits into the story. Even if the words don’t exactly match with it, the feeling I get is simply perfect for certain scenes. And I wanted to shared them with you so if you decide to give Lost Prelude a chance, maybe you’ll add to the experience with these songs. * Maurice Ravel – Pavane pour une infante défunte (Piano Solo) This piece is seriously breathtaking, and it plays a huge role in the story. While I can’t pinpoint a specific scene for this one, I do mention it in the story. At least whenever Maya is listening to it. All I can say is, it is a special one for her father. If you’ve never listened to it, you are missing out. * Until The Ribbon Breaks – One Way Or Another I LOVE this song. I loved it before I even wrote Lost Prelude, and I definitely LOVE how it is the perfect song for the end scene. I’m sure if you read it, you’ll agree with me. It’s an awesome cover for the classic One Way Or Another. Everytime I listen to it I get goosebumps. * Snowhill – Be My Baby Did you hear this version? I know I keep saying the same thing over and over, but this one is beautiful too. And this one works great for the scene where Maya is with Alexander in his penthouse. And it’s from Alexander to Maya ... I adore every word in this song. * Sam Smith – Not in That Way Okay, I have to admit that this one isn’t specifically for a scene, but it is an awesome song. And it kind of gives you an insight of how Maya is feeling.

Blurb
After surviving the long and excruciating recruitment process, I thought I would end up working for Madonna or the CIA at the very least. Boy, was I wrong. Even in my wildest dreams I couldn't have imagined what I was in for. What my heart was in for. I couldn't have possibly fathomed the lifestyle, the responsibility, how much it would take out of me, the inner battles, and mostly, the emotional whirlwind. I could never have imagined, prepared myself for, or anticipated… Him. It was supposed to be a job. Just a temporary job. Just a few months. Just a short stop before the journey I was about to take to follow my dream. It was supposed to be a lot of things...but not this. Little did I know it would be the one event that would shape me, would change me, would bring on such a shift in the balance of my world. Would bring... Him. Would bring… Them. Both. Into my life.
